eBay Leads a Panel on Combatting Counterfeit Goods

September 27, 2021

eBay recently participated in an educational panel for Hill staffers entitled “Combating the Sale of Stolen and Counterfeit Goods in the Age of Ecommerce” hosted by the Internet Association. This was an opportunity to highlight proactive and reactive measures eBay takes to keep harmful products off our platform. We also discussed the importance of our voluntary partnerships with brands, law enforcement, and other industry stakeholders in order to information share and combat counterfeit goods. Etsy, Facebook, and Amazon also participated on the panel.

The discussion touched on various harmful anti-marketplace legislative proposals that would increase burdensome verification and disclosure requirements and ultimately harm our small business sellers. eBay’s Government Relations team is engaging with Members of Congress to educate them on the harms of legislation that would require our sellers to publicly disclose their personal information like full name, email, physical address, or phone number on each product listing.

eBay is committed to ensuring its platform is a trusted and safe marketplace for buyers and sellers. Thanks to the Internet Association for hosting this timely event and giving us an opportunity to highlight the proactive and voluntary measures we take to prevent or remove counterfeit goods from our platform.
