eBay recently participated in a CA Assembly Joint Informational hearing in Los Angeles, CA, conducted by the Select Committee on Retail Theft and Committee on Public Safety, and focused on, “Retail Crime: Exploring Solutions That Work.” The agenda for the hearing included three panels of experts who discussed detailed topics relating to retail crime, including statewide efforts, local efforts, and addressing fencing. eBay joined the panel focused on addressing fencing and reselling, and highlighted our Partnering with Retailers Offensively Against Crime and Theft (PROACT) program and collaborative work with retailers and law enforcement. We were the only ecommerce marketplace invited to appear and provide testimony. eBay’s continued commitment to the issue and our gold-standard program position us as a leader in the space and a trusted partner to government agencies. The legislature and Governor have both expressed interest in additional legislative measures on the topic of organized retail crime for the coming legislative session and the eBay Government Relations Team anticipates opportunities for seller engagement.
