eBay recently sponsored the Silicon Valley Leadership Group’s Celebration of Women Centennial Event. This virtual event brought together women leaders of all ages and backgrounds from across Silicon Valley to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment that guarantees a woman’s constitutional right to vote. Today, more than 68 million women in the United States vote in elections.

As part of the event, eBay’s SVP Legal Affairs, General Counsel & Secretary, Marie Oh Huber, co-moderated the keynote fireside chat featuring California’s First Partner, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The conversation focused on important issues related to women in leadership, equal pay, diversity in the workforce, and racial justice.  They also touched on the importance of female mentorship and having more women serve on corporate boards. Marie also had the opportunity to ask First Partner Newsom about her award-winning documentaries focused on changing gender stereotypes and inequality.

Since becoming First Partner of California, Jennifer Siebel Newsom has championed issues related to gender equity. She launched the #EqualPayCA initiative in partnership with the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls. #EqualPayCA seeks to close the pay gap in California and recognizes that more work needs to be done to address the wage gap, especially for women of color.

#EqualPayCA has challenged businesses to take the Equal Pay Pledge. By signing this pledge, companies commit to conducting an annual company-wide gender pay analysis, reviewing hiring and promotion processes and procedures to reduce unconscious bias and structural barriers, and promoting best practices that will close the pay gap to ensure fundamental equity for all workers. eBay signed on to this initiative in February 2020.
