On September 12, eBay participated in the inaugural Tech Fair in College Park, Maryland hosted by TEDCO (The Maryland Technology Development Corporation) in collaboration with U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship Chair Ben Cardin (D-MD). TEDCO’s Tech Fair was created to educate entrepreneurs and small business owners from Maryland’s underserved communities about how to get their businesses online and to provide resources, training, and networking opportunities to help grow these businesses.
Senator Cardin, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee, delivered keynote remarks during the opening session of the event. Attendees also heard from TEDCO’s CEO Troy LeMaile-Stovall and from John Fleming, the mid-Atlantic regional administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) who spoke about SBA’s resources for small businesses.
Brian Burke, Senior Manager of Seller Advocacy and Engagement at eBay, led a workshop with Maryland-based eBay seller Ryan Terko from Simply Nutrition to provide attendees with the fundamentals and best practices needed to start, run and grow a business on eBay. In addition, eBay had an exhibition booth throughout the day to showcase how selling on eBay can enable entrepreneurs and small businesses to expand their customer base and scale their businesses globally.
eBay would like to thank TEDCO, the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee, and Chair Cardin for hosting this important event as well as eBay sellers Ryan Terko and Brandon Owens of Simply Nutrition for attending and sharing their firsthand experience about starting their own business on eBay.
