eBay, Inc. is committed to protecting Internet-enabled small business retailers from any new sales tax burdens. We strongly oppose federal and state efforts to impose additional taxes on small Internet businesses, including the collection of sales taxes on remote sales.

As you may have heard,  bills have been introduced in the U.S. Congress that would create a new sales tax regime for online sales. These proposals would abandon current sales tax law and require online sellers to collect and remit sales taxes in over 9,500 sales tax jurisdictions nationwide making it harder for these businesses compete in the current retail environment.  There have been efforts to attach these Internet sales tax proposals to potential end of year legislative vehicles and many mega-billion dollar retailers have been asking Members of Congress to support this initiative in an effort to hurt their small business competitors. 

As we draw nearer to the end of 2012, we encourage you to reach out to the Members of Leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate  and express your opposition to Internet sales tax proposals being included in any end of year legislation.
