Paul Jones, eBay’s Senior Director of Global Asset Protection, recently spoke to eBay Radio and Jim “Griff” Griffith about what eBay is doing to protect its customers. eBay partners with retailers and law enforcement officials around the globe to protect both buyers and sellers, and to ensure that eBay is a safe and trustworthy place for people to engage in trade.
Unfortunately, bad sellers and buyers can hurt the platform’s trustworthiness and eBay works hard to weed out individuals who abuse the site. Feedback from trusted eBay buyers and sellers helps eBay’s customer service teams identify bad behavior. For eBay, it’s a constant learning process.
“I’m always trying to explain to people that this is an ongoing effort and that we actually see great results,” Griffith said.
eBay also works with more than 300 of the nation’s top retailers through the PROACT (Partnering with Retailers Offensively Against Crime and Theft) program. eBay has created an early notification program that allows retailers to quickly report stolen goods on the site so eBay can remove them as quickly as possible. eBay has also worked with retailers to identify commonly-stolen items so customer service teams can recognize and remove stolen goods as quickly as possible.
“We have invested, as a company, a lot of time with the nation’s largest retailers to develop great relationships,” Jones said. “When they have losses, they can work with us and we can make sure we get those potentially stolen goods off of our platform so sellers and buyers can shop on a platform that’s very trusted. The relationship [with retailers] has come almost 360 degrees from where it was three and a half years ago.”
