This holiday season the eBay Government Relations Team would like to offer our sincere thanks to all the members of our vibrant Main Street community who participated in our grassroots campaigns in 2022. This year, there was no shortage of important issues at the state and federal levels impacting ecommerce sellers of all sizes including, but not limited to, the INFORM Consumers Act, SHOP SAFE Act and the lowering of the 1099-K tax reporting threshold.
Throughout the year, we asked you to lend your voice to our advocacy efforts and nearly 100,000 Main Street members across all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico answered the call. As a result, more than 280,000 letters, phone calls and tweets were received by legislators, and time and time again, it has been proven they listen to their constituents. For example, over 33,000 members contacted their state and federal representatives via our grassroots campaigns regarding the INFORM Consumers Act and the need for a nationwide standard to protect seller privacy and provide consumer transparency. This greatly aided our efforts to help Congress craft such legislation and we are very pleased to report it recently passed into law. Additionally, nearly 25,000 members contacted legislators to amplify our concerns with the SHOP SAFE Act, which we successfully stopped this Congress. SHOP SAFE would have imposed burdensome requirements that made it harder to sell online while pitting online sellers against the largest global brands.
Our victories on these issues and ability to protect all eBay users from unreasonable laws and regulations would not be possible without your enthusiastic support. Thank you again and we look forward to working with you and keeping you informed in 2023
