eBay Applauds Resolution to Support Small Internet Businesses

Today in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Paul Hodes (D-NH), along with Congressmen Schrader (D-OR), Pitts (R-PA), Lungren (R-CA), and Congresswoman Capito (R-WV), introduced H. Res 1570, a bipartisan resolution supporting the “preservation of Internet Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses.” This resolution expresses the growing opposition to a bill introduced earlier this month by Congressman Delahunt (D-MA), which would impose onerous new tax burdens on small online retailers by requiring the collection and remittance of sales tax for every purchase in every sales tax jurisdiction nationwide. Why Reselling Tickets Is Good

"The ticket resale market creates opportunities for many more fans to attend an event. For many high-demand events, if you\'re not lucky enough to know someone, hit the initial ticket sale at the right time, or hold season tickets, you are not going to go to the event; unless, of course, you find a ticket on the resale market.” Read more about why “reselling tickets is good” in this Huffington Post article from Chris Tsakalakis, President of StubHub and General Manager of the eBay tickets division.

Letter to the Editor Defends Online Sellers Against Sales Tax Legislation

eBay\'s Tod Cohen, Vice President of Global Government Relations, argues that a streamlined sales tax will unfairly burden small business owners, in a letter to the editor published in the Wisconsin State Journal. Many small retailers turn to the Internet and sites like eBay as a way to compete with large retailers. Forcing them to comply with tax jurisdictions around the country will add additional costs to running their business. Click here to read Tod\'s letter to the editor.
