eBay Urges Rethink on EU’s Internet Sales Plan

The European Commission has recently drafted legislation allowing suppliers (brand owners) to require that distributors have a retail storefront before they can sell online. "A \'brick-and-mortar\' provision would hold back e-commerce growth in Europe over the next decade just when it is at a \'teenage stage\'," said Tod Cohen, eBay\'s vice president of government relations. The First National Broadband Network on Mainland Australia Launched

On 17th February 2010 Senator Conroy attended Mt Isa to launch the first National Broadband Network (NBN) on mainland Australia. The $250 million project when complete will connect “more than 100 regional locations and benefit 395,000 people in regional Australia.” says Conroy.

Anti Price Fixing Bill Passes House Subcommittee

A bill to prevent retailers from setting minimum prices passed the U.S. House Judiciary Committee last week. The "Discount Pricing Consumer Protection Act" (HR 3190), passed the Competition Policy Subcommittee after much debate and with the strong support of eBay. eBay users often can buy and sell goods at prices far below conventional retailers. "When large manufacturers and their dominant retail partners engage in price-fixing, they burden consumers with inflated prices and rob the economy of the value provided by small business competition," said Tod Cohen, eBay deputy general counsel for government relations.
